The European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) is seeking to recruit a full time: Documentalist

The European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) is a leading applied research and training institute for the European labour movement. We use our expertise in research, training and workplace health and safety to advance workers’ interests and to support, reinforce and stimulate the European Trade Union action and identity.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the General Director you will be responsible for the tasks, including:

  • Management of the physical document collection:
    • selection according to the acquisition policy and budget, in line with user proposals and needs;
    • cataloguing and indexing;
    • filing and archiving;
    • books loans management;
    • subscription management: renewals, receipt of periodicals, distribution of new issues received, and surveys to meet the needs of internal users.
  • Welcoming users: helping with document searches and providing guidance on the use of the Documentation Centre as well as the Labourline document database (www.labourline.org).
  • Managing the document database (Labourline): collecting information and developing the database, indexing, encoding, and managing the functional administration of the database using Kentika software.
  • Monitoring the literature in the Institute’s areas of expertise and its environment for researchers and management, enabling newsletters to be sent out using the Kentika documentation software.
  • Participating in professional networks,
  • Checking and correcting the bibliographies of the Institute’s publications in accordance with internal rules.

Qualifications and skills required

  • Ability to carry out standard library operations.
  • Mastery of specific information management tools (document management software, document monitoring, bibliographic databases); knowledge of Kentika document management software is an advantage.
  • Mastery of IT tools (Office Suite, Zotero, ).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and good public relations skills.
  • Ability to listen and analyse.
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team; empathy, solidarity, respect.
  • Organised and rigorous, as well as intellectually curious and open-minded with a good team spirit and excellent planning and coordination skills.
  • Language skills: fluency in French and English (working languages); knowledge of another European language is an asset.

Knowledge and experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in librarianship or equivalent; the inter-university and haute école certificate in archive and information management and processing Met@ is an advantage.
  • Several years’ experience in a similar role is desirable.
