More than 500 staff members at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) contribute every day to improving the health of millions of people worldwide. Our researchers conduct more than 100 scientific projects in the fields of tropical medicine and international health. Our teaching staff welcomes more than 500 professionals from around the world each academic year to attend our highly regarded medical courses. Tens of thousands of travel and STI consultations take place in our clinic each year, and our internationally recognized reference laboratories examine many hundreds of thousands of samples.

The Research Office coordinates, supports and promotes the research activities of the ITM. The office contributes to the development, implementation and quality assurance of ITM’s research policy and helps ITGM researchers in seeking research funds, strengthening partnerships and valorising research. The library team is part of the Research office and supports students, researchers and doctors in their search for scientific information in the electronic databases and other resources available to the ITM Library, such as Web of Science, UpToDate, MEDLINE and Cochrane Library.

We are looking for a staff member to strengthen the team, more specifically in the context of accessing and managing research information and output.

Assignment

·       You are the point of contact for the ITG research information platform. In collaboration with your colleagues within the relevant departments of the ITM, you coordinate the disclosure of research information to the Flemish government, among others.

·       Together with your colleagues, you contribute creatively to research policy, including Open Science and publication policy.

·       You help students, researchers and doctors with their searches in the electronic databases and other sources available in the ITM Library (‘Information Retrieval’).

·       You organise/provide training and education related to your assignment.

·       You develop contacts with colleagues in similar positions at Flemish and international universities and research institutes. You act as a representative in relevant internal and external meetings.

·       You keep your finger on the pulse of (inter)national developments, trends and best practices related to your assignment.

Profile

·       You have a master’s degree in line with the ITM’s mission.

·       Knowledge and experience in information management, repositories and sustainable storage of research data is a major plus. You are familiar with at least some of the following topics: digital research management, digital archiving, data management, Open Science, Sherpa Romeo, etc. Feeling for ICT concepts is a plus.

·       You have an analytical and critical mind. You are able to analyse complex questions and formulate clear answers.

·       You have excellent communication skills and operate with ease between researchers, policy and administrative environments.

·       You can build and maintain a network relevant to the position. You can take on a representative role in this.

·       You have a strong affinity with ITM’s mission and values.

·       You have a proactive and can-do mentality, you are flexible, customer-oriented and creative.

·       You are stress-resistant and used to working with deadlines.

·       You value quality, integrity and partnership.

·       You are fluent in English and Dutch.
